This space provides comfortable furniture and flexible lighting to allow students to rest and recuperate. If you’ve had a busy day of lectures, or just need a break from an overwhelming sensory environment, this can be a good place to relax for an hour. The room must be booked in advance of being used as it can only be used by one person at a time. The Arts Building Respite Space is managed by the Disability Service and is provided only to students who have applied for supports with the DS. Only those who have been specifically referred for respite by their Disability Officer can access this room. Your student card needs to be activated on referral from your Disability Officer. Entry to Room 2032 in the Arts Building is by student card access only and must be booked in advance of use. Students are limited to 1 booking per day to ensure availability for other students. Room 2032 can be booked through the Online Booking Calendar only.

Botanic Gardens

The garden’s origins date back over 330 years to its inception in 1687 as a physic garden for the teaching of medicine at Trinity College. Since then it has changed location twice, and has been at Dartry, Dublin 6 since 1967. Today, the garden serves as a teaching and research facility for the Trinity College Botany Department. It is home to a living collection of approximately 4000 species, and also houses the Irish Threatened Plant Seedbank.

The Buttery serves as one of the main student cafeterias on campus, located beside the Dining Hall. The entrance is situated to the right of the Dining Hall steps and includes approximately five steps down to the doorway, with the word "BUTTERY" prominently displayed above. The environment within the Buttery is divided into different sections, each with its own distinct sensory features: Main Dining Area: Upon entering, you'll find a wide, open, and bright space where various noises from people and the kitchen travel throughout. The atmosphere here is lively, with the sounds and smells of food filling the air. Kitchen/Food Counter Area: This area is more bustling, with a one-way queuing system clearly marked by signage on the walls and floor. The noise level is higher, and the smells from the kitchen are more pronounced. Vault/Coffee Dock Area: This space offers a more subdued environment with lower lighting, alcoves, and a variety of seating options. While generally quieter, there is a constant humming from the coffee dock, and the space can become brighter and louder when in use. Dining Area to the Left of the Hot Food Counter: A smaller, somewhat quieter space compared to the main dining area. It features less natural light and more fluorescent lighting, creating a different atmosphere.

A unique space to see and learn about contemporary art, open five days a week and admission is always free. Explore the current exhibitions, artist talks, screenings and workshops or delve into various programmes for young people or the rich archive of exhibitions and events. The Douglas Hyde Gallery of Contemporary Art was co-founded in a unique partnership between the Arts Council of Ireland and Trinity College Dublin. It opened to the public in March 1978 as the first publicly funded space dedicated to contemporary art and the first university gallery in Ireland. Throughout its history, the Douglas Hyde has presented pivotal exhibitions by Irish artists and brought artists of significant international. We believe that art plays a central role in shaping the world we live in, and that galleries are an essential public space in a progressive society. The building's design reflects a minimalist aesthetic, with its raw concrete surfaces and functional form. Inside, the library provides a range of study spaces, accommodating both individual and group work, and is equipped with various resources to support academic activities.

 If you prefer minimal visual stimuli, we have developed a number of areas with pods containing enclosed study desks. For example, there are two sets of quiet study pods on the Upper Level of the Lecky Library, which provide enclosure and reduced visual distraction, but also provide generous study space between each desk in an area with good natural light. If you want to work on assignments without any visual distractions, these pods are a great resource. Each pod has a comfortable chair and a desk, and is almost fully enclosed by a privacy screen.

The interior is adapted to suit different needs: For Ceremonies: The hall is typically arranged with rows of seats facing the stage, providing a clear view for attendees. For Examinations: The space is reconfigured with rows of desks filling the hall to accommodate examination activities.

Physics Building

The Fitzgerald Building, commonly referred to as the Physics Building, houses the Department of Physics. This six-storey structure includes a range of facilities for both research and teaching in the field of physics: Ground Floor: Features laboratories and offices. Basement: Contains the radioactive storage and laser room. First and Second Floors: House the tea room, additional offices, and laboratories. Roof: Equipped with an observatory for astronomical research and observation.

Foster Place

Formerly the Allied Irish Banks Branch, this 3,211 sq.m. protected structure comprises of the old Hibernian Club at 2-4 Foster Place and an adjoining complex comprising of 30-34 Anglesea Street (inclusive). It is spread mostly over four floors and includes the Grand Banking Hall, the Roll of Honour and a large vault in the basement. The entire array of buildings currently accommodates a variety of permanent and temporary academic and administrative office functions.

Access is therefore limited to members of these societies or during events. There are many rooms, including large society rooms, with pool tables, debate chambers, social rooms, computer room, library and society meeting spaces.

There is also an SU shop just outside the main entrance. [Ground Floor]: The Synge and Salmon lecture theatres. Various academic offices are found within the Westland Row buildings. [First Floor]: The Maxwell, the Joly, and the MacNeill lecture theatres. You can also find the security hut for detailed building information and wayfinding assistance. [Second and Third Floors]: Hamilton Library, and other office/research facilities. [Student Spaces]: The Hamilton JCR / Zón Mac Léinn, is a large student space located at the front of the building. It offers a variety of seating options, study areas, and social spaces to support student interaction and relaxation.

This is a room specifically for staff/students who experience pain or fatigue due to a disability (respite), or who are breastfeeding and would like a quiet space for this (parenting). It has seating, adjustable lighting, and a sink. This room can only be used by one person at a time, and can be booked online for one-hour slots by those using it as a respite space. For more information on booking, College Health Respite Space is located just off the main reception area in the College Health Centre at Printing House Square and is available Monday to Friday from 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm. The College Health Respite Space is provided only to students who have applied for supports with the DS. House 1 is a four-storey building situated above ground, featuring a network of interconnecting corridors and stairways. This building houses various offices, including those of the Provost and Vice-Provost. On the ground floor, you’ll find the Helpdesk and general offices. The lobby provides access to a corridor that links House 1 to the Provost's House and the Staff Office Hut, both located to the south of the main building.

House 47 now houses Student 2 Student (S2S) and some Counselling Services. The S2S Student Space is available to all students. There is a bookable Zoom Room for making private video calls, a cosy 1:1 Room for Peer Support, and a shared student space that is available to all students or can be booked for small group meet-ups. There is a microwave, a water cooler, a kettle, and coffee/tea. Food is allowed. There is also seating, plug sockets, bean bags, plants, a table, and Bluetooth speakers that students can use to play their favourite tunes. House 47 is also a secondary location for Student Counselling Services. If you have an appointment with Student Counselling in House 47, there is a waiting room just off the main S2S Student Space. Staff members are very friendly and happy to help you find your way.

Originally constructed as a boiler house in the mid-1900s, the Laundrette is a two-storey building that has been adapted over the years. In the mid-1980s, it was converted into a laundry centre and later became a self-service Laundrette. The building retains its original structure, including an external staircase that provides access to an upper storeroom. The ground floor houses the washing and drying machines as part of its main function.

The Museum Building is a historic and architecturally significant structure that houses several key departments, including Geology, Geography, Civil Engineering, and Natural Sciences. The building features a basement, a grand Main Foyer on the ground floor, and two upper levels. The main entrance, located centrally on the north-facing side of the building, opens onto New Square, while a smaller, secondary entrance on the east side provides additional access for students and staff. The Museum Building is renowned for its stunning Victorian architecture, intricate stone carvings, and its role as an academic hub for the study of the earth sciences and engineering.

These spaces are ideal if you want quiet areas to work, with lower levels of light and reduced visual distraction. If you prefer minimal visual stimuli, we have developed a number of areas with pods containing enclosed study desks. For example, there are two sets of quiet study pods on the Upper Level of the Lecky Library, which provide enclosure and reduced visual distraction, but also provide generous study space between each desk in an area with good natural light.

Old Civil Engineering Building

The Old Civil Engineering Building, a distinctive red brick structure. This building has historically been central to the university's Civil Engineering programme and continues to serve as a key space for both research and practical teaching. The ground floor houses the Soil Mechanics and Environmental Engineering Laboratories, along with a series of cell offices where academic and research staff are based. The upper level is home to the CAD and Hydraulics Laboratories, providing essential tools and spaces for students and researchers in these fields. A small toilet facility is also located on this level. While the building has retained much of its original character, it remains a vital part of the university’s engineering landscape.

Old Stone Building

St James's Old Stone Building is an architectural amalgamation of three distinct structures, each joined together at different stages over time to form a cohesive whole. The building ranges from 2 to 4 floors and serves as a multi-functional space for various purposes. It houses offices for postgraduate students, as well as staff members from several departments. The building's distinctive character is defined by its old stone facade, which reflects the rich history and evolving nature of the structure. Inside, it offers a range of facilities designed to support the diverse needs of its occupants, including modern office spaces and collaborative areas.

Oldham House

Primarily a social space for residents, Oldham House at Trinity Hall was named after Alice Oldham, one of the main campaigners for the admission of women to TCD. Oldham House contains the Warden's Office, the Junior Common Room and other social spaces.

The Oratory Chapel, located adjacent to the main Chapel in Parliament Square, serves as a serene space for quiet reflection and prayer. This is a space for students who regularly experience pain or fatigue as a result of a disability, and must be booked in advance of being used. It can only be used by one person at a time, and it provides comfortable furniture and flexible lighting to allow students to rest and recuperate. If you’ve had a busy day of lectures, or just need a break from an overwhelming sensory environment, this can be a good place to relax for an hour. The respite room in the Sports Centre is available for booking Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 6pm. The respite room in the Sports Centre is a shared space and may be pre-booked for other uses. The Lir Academy was established in 2011 to satisfy identified needs within the theatre, TV and film industries. Offering a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and short courses, The Lir Academy is successfully supplying the theatre, film, TV and related industries with students who have been trained to the highest standards possible. All training from introductory level to degree level is taught by industry professionals who take immense pride in teaching their craft. Voice and movement training are core elements to the acting degree and also are stand alone short courses on offer to established actors who are interested in improving their skills and to actors in training. Technical courses range from introductory courses in lighting, sound, stage management and costume, to the three year Bachelor degree in Stage Management and Technical Theatre (SMTT). The Lir Academy is synonymous with professional training in acting, voice, movement, stage management, stage construction, scenic art, lighting, sound, costume, playwriting, theatre directing and stage design. The Lir Academy is housed in a custom-designed building with facilities catering to the range of training on offer.

The Lloyd Institute is a key academic building within Trinity College Dublin, hosting several departments and facilities. Access to the building, including movement between floors, requires a card, ensuring that the space remains reserved for those involved in postgraduate research and associated activities.

Book of Kells, The Long Room Building

The Old Library 1. Description The Old Library at Trinity College Dublin is one of Ireland's most iconic cultural landmarks, housing the world-renowned Book of Kells and the magnificent Long Room. The building, rectangular in plan, has served as the main library for Trinity College throughout most of its history. In 1992, a major renovation of the ground floor transformed parts of the building into an exhibition space, including the Treasury Room, where the Book of Kells is displayed, and a Library Shop catering to visitors. The building's first floor is dominated by the Long Room, an awe-inspiring library space lined with shelves that hold thousands of rare and historic books. The Long Room also features upper gallery areas on its east and west sides, where additional book storage is found. The upper floors at both ends of the building house the Early Printed Books and Manuscripts sections, while attic-level areas provide further storage. The Old Library is not only an academic resource but also a major tourist attraction, drawing over 600,000 visitors annually. It is the third most visited site in Dublin, making it a key part of the city's cultural and historical landscape.

The Pavillion Bar, commonly known as "The Pav," is a vibrant social hub on campus, designed to cater primarily to students. Located adjacent to the cricket pitch, this popular venue offers a lively atmosphere for relaxation and socialising. The building includes a variety of facilities that enhance the student experience. On the ground floor, you will find the D.U.C.A.C. changing rooms, essential for those engaged in sports activities. The Pav is designed with both indoor and outdoor seating options. Inside, patrons can enjoy the lively ambience, while the outdoor areas, including seating along the steps next to the cricket pitch, provide a more relaxed setting.

Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute
TBSI, School of Medicine

The TBSI is a large, glass-fronted building located on Pearse Street. This building contains teaching spaces, labs and offices for science and health science faculties. There is a student space on the first floor which includes seating, study spaces and a kitchenette. There is another similar student space on the second floor which also contains vending machines. There is currently a one-way access system in place, with access into the building via the door on the left of the automatic door entrance (not currently in use). Entry is via swipe card access to the right-hand side of the door. The foyer is a large, open space with an attendant’s desk directly across from the entrance. Access to the main part of the building is via swipe access through double doors next to the attendant’s desk, which leads to teaching spaces, labs etc. To the right of these double doors there is a tall grey wall signage showing directions to rooms within the building. On the right side of the foyer there is a set of stairs leading to the lower level of the building.

Trinity Botanic Gardens

The Botanic Garden is a quiet and peaceful space for the college community to enjoy the nature and an incredible collection of plants. During term time some areas may be slightly busy when they are being used for teaching, but most of the time they are quiet and peaceful. Visitors are welcome to walk the grounds, explore the glasshouses, or rest, read and relax with nature. The Trinity Centre for Health Sciences is situated on the hospital grounds adjacent to hospitals 1 and 2. The building was opened in September 1994 and provides purpose built accommodation for teaching and research. Facilities include; lecture theatres, seminar rooms, a pc room, a library, a teaching laboratory, research laboratories, a staff/student common room and a cafe. In addition, it houses the departmental accommodation for the School of Medicine disciplines of; Clinical Medicine, Surgery, Therapeutics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Psychiatry, Nutrition and Dietetics. Located close by are the St James’s Hospital School of Nursing, the William Stokes Postgraduate Centre, the Sir Patrick Dun Research Laboratory and the Disciplines of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Radiation Therapy.
