Description

The sensory rooms on the second floor of the Eavan Boland Library offer a private, low-distraction environment for quiet, individual study. With four compact, enclosed rooms available, these spaces are perfect for students who need to focus without external disturbances. The rooms are not suitable for taking Zoom or Teams calls, making them ideal for reading, writing, or focused work. Each room is equipped with dimmer switches, allowing students to adjust the lighting levels to their preference.

Facilities

Each sensory room contains one desk and one chair, providing a basic but comfortable setup for individual study. The simplicity of the furnishings contributes to the low-distraction nature of the space, allowing students to concentrate on their work.
There is one power socket available in each room, allowing students to charge their electronic devices while studying.
Food and drink are not permitted in the sensory rooms to maintain cleanliness and prevent disruptions to the quiet atmosphere.
The nearest kettle from here can be found in the SU Kitchen in House 6.
The nearest microwave from here can be found in the SU Kitchen in House 6.
Due to the small size of the sensory rooms and narrow hallways to enter them, they may pose a challenge to students using larger mobility aids to make comfortable usage of the rooms.

The sensory rooms are designed to provide a controlled, minimalistic environment. The dimmer switches allow students to adjust the lighting according to their preference, while the enclosed nature of the rooms blocks out external visual distractions. However, because the rooms are small and windowless, some students may find them claustrophobic, though they are perfect for those who thrive in a quiet, distraction-free setting.
